Social Action Committee

The Social Action Committee is comprised of BSTC congregation members who are interested in helping to raise our community's awareness of social needs and gain their participation in taking action(s) in support of the Jewish tenet of Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World). We conduct monthly meetings January-May and September-December each year to support the planning of awareness programs and speakers, as well as activities that require fundraising or direct participation by congregation members.

A few guest speakers we have sponsored include the Executive Director of the Southwestern Office of the Anti-Defamation League, the Coordinator for the Arizona branch of No More Deaths, and the Director of Development for the Youth On Their Own (YOTO) program.

Some of our current projects include providing school supplies for our local school district's Title 1 students, collecting non-perishable food items for our local Green Valley and Sahuarita Food Banks, participation in an annual Walk for Hunger fundraiser, participating in a monthly communication activity for YOTO students, collection of new pajamas and children's books for the Angel Heart Pajama Project, and participating in the annual community Mitzvah Day activities.
